Purchase Order (PO) tracking automation is the use of technology to streamline the tedious, manual process of updating POs in your ERP based on Order Acknowledgments from suppliers. It typically involves technology that can read (“parse”) a PO Acknowledgment, match it against an open PO, and integrate with your ERP to automatically add or change important information like ship dates and item quantities.
Instead of having to individually look up each PO, compare it to the PO acknowledgment, and update the ERP accordingly, users can focus only on the exceptions, where there is a quantity or price mismatch between the Acknowledgment and what was ordered. Most of the time ship dates are automatically updated, and no manual intervention is required.
More advanced PO tracking automation tools can go beyond order acknowledgments to handle open order reports as well, eliminating the need to go through them line by line and identify changes.
The benefits of PO tracking automation depend on your current process.
